HOUSING developers have unveiled plans for a major new development to be sited near Old Marston - and they want to hear your views on the scheme.

The Hill View Farm site has been ear-marked for the proposal which will see 159 new homes built, 79 of which will be 'affordable dwellings.'

There will also be new access routes built and additional car parking spaces.

A spokesperson for the project said: "Discussions with Oxford City Council have now reached a point where we can share these latest proposals with the residents of Old Marston as well as the wider community.

"And [we] invite comments and suggestions from you so that we fully understand the concerns of those most affected by these proposals."

The housing scheme will lie to the north east of Oxford, south of the A40, on land that totals 3.673 hectares.

That land was removed from the green belt and allocated in the Oxford Local Plan 2036.

There will be a total of 159 new homes, from houses to flats, and half will be 'affordable' housing.

Vehicle access is proposed via a new entrance along Mill Lane, and pedestrian and cyclist access points will link the development to Old Marston village.

There will also be new car parking provision for homes depending on their size.

Speaking of the traffic impact the project will have developers said: "The very allocation of these sites will inevitably increase traffic volumes through the village.

"This is acknowledged by the city and county councils, and balanced against the need to make the very best use of the land."

Developers have now invited the wider community to have their say on the project.

Any comments on the scheme can be e-mailed to admin@nc-architects.com and views will be taken until November 14.

They went on to say that because of the pandemic and the restrictions in force a public exhibition would be impossible.

A spokesperson said: "Under normal circumstances we would hold an exhibition locally at which people could raise their concerns with us.

"The current Covid -19 rules prevent more than six people getting together so we have had to find a way to publicise the scheme giving details of how you can access the current proposals.

"This is an early opportunity to express your views on the emerging scheme so that we can discuss them with Oxford City Council prior to the lodging of a full planning application.

"Residents will be consulted again by the city council in the usual way once the formal application has been made."

The scheme comes after a series of public hearings held in December, after which inspectors agreed the city council had shown housing need in Oxford was dire enough to allow building on green belt land.

While the site is called Hill View Farm it has not been used for farming in more than a decade.
