MORE people are mapping out what Oxford means to them for the chance to win prizes.

The city council's 'Oxford – My Treasure Island' competition has had its deadline extended until November 9, giving entrants another week to submit their designs.

Each one will be judged by a panel of experts, which includes Nick Millea from the Bodleian Library’s map collection.

Artist Jennifer Crane has drawn up two maps for the competition – one of her favourite city landmarks and the other of popular food spots.

The 30-year-old has had a challenging year, after giving birth to a baby boy in February but then experiencing maternity leave in lockdown.

The Rose Hill resident turned her hand to art and set up an Etsy page, Jenny Crane Creations, in August.

She said: "There was a lot of time in the house and I did a lot of drawing, which was always something I'd liked but never had the time.

"It started with individual buildings and went from there. It really got me through the challenges of pandemic maternity leave."

Maps can be submitted individually or as a group and entrants are encouraged to be as unique as they want.

The main prize is a £100 gift hamper from Oxford's Covered Market, with the top three creations professionally framed by Covered Arts.

The winning under 12 entry will have their map turned into something delicious by The Cake Shop, also based in the market, where they will be invited to watch it made.

Entrants aged 11 or under can pick up a free treasure map from Blackwell's Bookshop in Broad Street, which highlights some of the best places in the city for children and includes a 15 per cent discount at the store.
