With coronavirus cases rising at an alarming rate in Oxfordshire, more people could face stricter Tier 2 restrictions across the county.

Oxford city will be the first area to enter Tier 2, with new measures coming into place from on Saturday (October 31).

The area is now considered as “high risk”, with infection rates higher than 100 cases per 100,000 people.

Under Tier 2, residents won’t be able to meet their loved ones in any indoor settings, though they will still be able to meet outdoors – as long they continue to apply the rule of six.

The latest figures released on October 27 show Oxford had a rate of 134.5 cases per 100,000 people, with 205 cases in the last seven days.

However, the highest infection rate is in Cherwell – an area that is still under Tier 1 – at 148.8 cases per 100,000 people.

The weekly infection rate for Oxfordshire county is 115.7, but so far the region is set to stay in Tier 1 (except for the city centre).

As per Public Health England’s data, West Oxfordshire is the third highest with a weekly rate of 107.6.

South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse are at 92.2 and 89.0 respectively.
