AN Oxfordshire-based potter has converted her beloved greenhouse into a gallery showcasing her ceramics.

Charlotte Storrs, who runs potter business Charlotte Storrs Stoneware, usually holds an autumnal open day before the Christmas period at her garden studio in Culham.

But due to coronavirus restrictions, she has invited the public to view her work in her greenhouse instead.

She said: “This year I had to be creative and rethink my plans as I prefer not to have visitors in the pottery during the pandemic.

“We have cleared out our hydroponic greenhouse (all our veg from the greenhouse has been eaten or frozen) which has turned into a beautiful greenhouse gallery.”

Open until December 18, visits are by appointment only and one visitor or couple can go at a time.

Oxford Mail:

The greenhouse is ‘well ventilated’ and hand sanitiser and gloves to handle pots are provided.

People are also welcome to stay for a socially distanced mug of mulled home-pressed apple juice in Ms Storrs’ gazebo.

The potter, who is Dutch and plays the violin and viola, started the craft fifteen years ago and says she is ‘passionate’ about working on the potter’s wheel.

She makes functional stoneware, pots, plates and bowls which can be used on a daily basis.

Ms Storrs added: “I use a lovely, groggy, rustic clay and a white glaze for a simple, non fussy appearance. Food stands out so well against the white ceramic.

“Since visiting a number of potters in Japan, I like to incorporate akebia quinata vine in my work for handles - a beautiful, natural material. All work is oven and dishwasher proof apart from pieces with akebia handles.”

Ms Storrs says she usually makes to order but occasionally have work in stock.

She has sold through luxury homeware stores such as Liberty’s, Fortnum & Mason and Daylesford, and now mainly sells online through her website.

She said: “Do come and visit when you are in the area or do contact me if you have any questions or would like to place an order. It will be lovely to talk to you.”

Ms Storr also holds teaching classes by arrangement and courses where people can learn how to make pottery.
