PLANS to install a 5G mast next to a road in Headington will have been given the go-ahead.

Telecoms company Cornerstone sought permission for ‘prior approval’ to build a new 5G mast on the corner of Old Road and Windmill Road, near the Nuffield Orthopaedic centre.

And Oxford City Council approved the mast this week.

Cornerstone is run in partnership by Vodafone and Telefonica to upgrade their communications network.

Several similar applications for 5G masts, mainly across eastern Oxford, have been made by Cornerstone in recent months.

These include approved plans for masts at various points along the Eastern Bypass and at Marsh Lane in Marston.

Earlier this month, EE announced it had rolled out 5G in Oxford, alongside other towns across the UK.

In documents attached to Cornerstone’s application, the company says it often shares its new 5G masts with other companies. Planning reference 20/02148/T56
