A CARE home in South Oxfordshire celebrated 'good' rating overall almost a year after it received a surprise inspection by the national health watchdog over concerns about staff, medication and how risks were being assessed.

Abingdon Court was rated as 'requires improvement' following a visit by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in September last year.

The inspection found that there were issues over staff levels and the way that medication was being managed.

However, the care home located on Marcham Road, which at the time was looking after 61 people, has now bounced back.

Staff members celebrated after the facilities were accessed to be 'good' in all areas after a recent inspection on September 22.

CQC regularly visits care homes in England to find out whether the place is safe, responsive to people's needs, effective, well-led and caring.

The inspector spoke to residents about their experiences of care, as well as talking to the staff and carefully checking systems and processes with the home.

Ana Ciobotaru, the home manager at Abingdon, commented on the improved rating: "I am delighted with the report and positive feedback from the CQC inspector but even more delighted for the team.

"They continue to work so hard to ensure that Abingdon Court is a caring, safe and welcoming home, and this report is a testament to that.

"I also want to thank the residents, their friends and families and the local community who continue to support us through these unusual and difficult months and appreciate what we do. "

The service was also previously rated 'good' following an inspection published on November 20, 2018.

Abingdon Court is part of the Maria Miliband Care Group.
