CHANGES could be made to a main road in Littlemore to improve safety for pedestrians.

Oxfordshire County Council is consulting on plans to install traffic calming features at five locations on Oxford Road, between its junctions with the Eastern By-Pass and Sandford Road.

The proposed safety measures are five flat top humps with uncontrolled crossing points, with the first two of these six metres wide.

These would be implemented 32 and 78 metres south of the roundabout for the Eastern By-Pass respectively.

A third flat top hump would be located at the junction with Swinbourne Road and would be about 20 metres wide.

The next one is planned to be nine metres wide and 44 metres south of the Swinbourne Road turn, while the fifth, again about 20 metres wide, could be implemented at the junction with Dudgeon Road.

There is already a yield sign – which tells drivers to give way – near the top of Oxford Road, towards the Eastern By-Pass roundabout.

Flat top humps are less aggressive than speed bumps at low speeds and the ramps are expected to be 75mm tall, although all dimensions are approximate at this stage.

The council consulted on plans for a zebra crossing on Oxford Road earlier this year following concerns about drivers 'roaring' through.

Residents can have their say in writing, via email or by completing an online questionnaire by November 13.
