ORGANISERS of an annual charity event have vowed to return better than ever next year.

Witney in the Pink was due to take place last Saturday but was cancelled due to coronavirus.

Since its launch in 1999, more than £200,000 has been raised for Abingdon-based charity, Against Breast Cancer, with last year’s event raising £8,000.

Fundraising efforts began when Jeanne Chattoe’s sister, Delia Winkler, was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Mrs Chattoe organised street collections, book and cake stalls, and an annual fashion show.

Her sister died in 1996, aged 41, and since then Mrs Chattoe has twice fought her own battle against breast cancer.

She said: “It’s such a wonderful, feel-good event and it’s raised awareness too, helping an awful lot of people to talk about breast cancer and reach out for help and support.

“We were devastated to cancel this year’s event but we will be back on the first Saturday of next October all guns blazing.”

Mrs Chattoe has been making face masks during the pandemic, to raise funds for Against Breast Cancer. Visit againstbreastcancer.org.uk for more.
