A CYCLIST died after a hit and run on a busy main road.

Simon Chesher, 38, died on September 2 at the John Radcliffe Hospital, a month after he crashed with a car on the A417 in Wantage on August 2.

At his inquest opening at Oxford Coroner's Court today, head coroner for the county Darren Salter said Mr Chesher, who was a head of technology, had been born in Hong Kong but lived in Wantage with his wife Catherine.

His heartbroken family have previously released a tribute to the 'most amazing', 'talented, loving and caring' man.

The cause of death was a serious head injury.

A pre-inquest review has been scheduled at Oxford Coroner's Court for February 10.

However Mr Salter explained that the inquest procedure – which aims to answer four questions: who the person was, where, how and when they came to their death – could also be heard at criminal court if the police press charges.
