A FAMILY is celebrating two special birthdays as the youngest and oldest members of the ‘daisy chain’ turn one and 100 respectively.

Daisy Morgan celebrates her 100th birthday next week, while Daisy Haigh turns one today.

Mrs Morgan, from Kidlington, has been planning her centenary birthday since last year, however plans have altered due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Between now and her birthday on Monday, she will be celebrating with a series of mini parties with her family and friends.

Her great granddaughter, Katie Haigh, made a promise when she was 10 years old that if she was to have a daughter, she would call her Daisy.

Mrs Haigh, 28, said: “Everyone refers to it as the daisy chain, I promised when I was 10 that my first daughter would be called Daisy.

“Great nanny is still very with it, she’s got all her marbles and the whole family is very close, which is important to her.

“Because of coronavirus, she’s having groups of three or four visit her over the coming week.

Oxford Mail:

“She’s so happy to have all these people with her, and to have a good chat with the people she loves and cares about.

“My mum’s going to have to make a batch of cakes for all these visits.”

The youngest Daisy in the chain was born at the John Radcliffe Hospital, five days before her great great grandmother turned 99.

Mrs Morgan had several jobs, including working in a nursing home, and at Marks & Spencer, before retiring aged 60.
