A MAN accused of battery and intending to commit a sexual offence has been given a date for his trial.

Robert Newman appeared via videolink at Oxford Crown Court yesterday.

The 32-year-old pleaded not guilty at that hearing to two counts.

He denied one offence of battery and another of committing an offence - an assault - with intent to commit a relevant sexual offence.

It is claimed that those crimes were carried out in the Oxfordshire area.

Both of the alleged offences are claimed to have been committed by Newman on August 3 this year.

The full details behind the two alleged offences were not revealed at the brief court hearing.

In light of the denials a trial date was pencilled in and will be held at the same court next year.

The date for trial was listed as February 1 next year and a time estimate was set for the case, which is expected to last between two and three days.

Newman was remanded in custody at the end of the hearing to await his trial.
