HOMES England welcomed findings on the emerging South Oxfordshire Local Plan that will see 3,000 homes built at Chalgrove Airfield.

Planning inspector Jonathan Bore backed the what he admitted was a high housing target despite protests from villagers and councillors.

Ken Glendinning, project director at Homes England said: "It is great news that the inspector has confirmed that the strategic allocation at Chalgrove Airfield is sound.

"We will work to resolve the issues which were highlighted in relation to the runway which can be dealt with via the planning process."

Homes England will now await the publication of the council’s proposed modification and publication of Mr Bore’s final report later this year to ensure that any changes are reflected within the plans.

The endorsement follows more than four years of work between the public body and Oxfordshire County Council.
