THIS is a City of Oxford Police officer.

No, seriously.

In October 1998, PC Mike Davies apparently donned every bit of gear he owned to MC a schools' road safety quiz.

The Oxford Mail reported: "The goggle-eyed, brolly-hatted off-beat bobby leapt into action at St Aldate's Police Station.

"Brandishing a truncheon and riot shield, he made a dramatic entrance amid much laughter."

After his bizarre entrance, PC Davies – who worked at the Thames Valley Police driving school at Aylesbury – took over as questionmaster.

The winners of the hard-fought quiz, for a fifth year running, were Magdalen College School, ahead of Wood Green, Witney, and Blessed George Napier, Banbury.

The winning team of Peter Tweney, Humphrey Pasley, Edward Fleming and Robert Eaglestone were presented with a shield.
