OXFORD MP Layla Moran has been appointed foreign affairs spokesperson for the Liberal Democrats.

Announcing the new role this afternoon on Twitter, she said: "I look forward to speaking up for marginalised groups, human rights and Britain’s place in the world, and to holding this government to account at a time when we need to be building bridges."

It comes after Ms Moran last week lost a leadership contest to Sir Ed Davey.

He won a large share of the votes from Lib Dem members, which were made in a postal ballot. While the new party leader received 42,756 votes, Ms Moran received 24,564.
