DOCTORS who are part of Extinction Rebellion staged an all-day protest outside petrol stations in Oxford.

Drivers making a stop to fill up the tank on Friday were greeted by campaigners carrying large placards that read 'air pollution kills' and urged greater transparency about the damage to health caused by fossil fuels.

Members also plastered petrol pumps with posts with graphic images and the Government's 'Stay Alert' message during the pandemic.

Many of the stickers were left in place at the Esso and BP petrol stations.

Oxford Mail:

The action follows growing calls for health warning labels on petrol pumps from notable public health academics.

Abingdon member Dr Jenny Hirst said: "Burning fossil fuels causes air pollution that damages our health, is linked to higher death rates from coronavirus and we know is the leading cause of climate change.

Oxford Mail:

"Use of petrol and diesel in cars should come with a health warning because it contributes to these harms."
