POLICE are warning people of more scams.

It comes after an Amazon Prime scam that targeted people across the county.

Now Action Fraud has reported that it has received more than 5,000 reports about fake emails and texts pretending to be from TV licensing.

These fake messages contain links to false websites that are designed to capture banking, personal or security information. Police advise that if you receive an email like this or any other email that you are not sure is genuine, do not click on any links.

Police also warn of a HMRC scam where an automated phone call will tell you that they are filing a lawsuit against you, and to press 1 to speak to a caseworker to make a payment.

If you receive such a call, you are advised to put the phone down. Other scam calls may offer a tax refund and request you to provide your bank or credit card information.

If you cannot verify the identity of the caller, HMRC recommend that you do not speak to them. If you have been a victim of this scam and suffered financial loss, report it to Action Fraud.

The callers use a variety of numbers and HMRC would like you to report full details of the scam by email to phishing@hmrc.gov.uk including date of the call, phone number and content of the call.
