ONE Pizza Express in Oxford has been earmarked for closure as the company announced plans to axe branches across the UK.

Last night the chain announced the proposed permanent closure that will put 1,100 jobs at risk.

The restaurant on Castle Street at the city centre is one of 73 of 449 branches that will not reopen.

Pizza Express also confirmed it had hired advisers from Lazard to lead a sale process for the business following financial decline during the Covid-19 pandemic. 

Oxford's other Pizza Express restaurant on Cornmarket Street will remian opened.
