A POLICE helicopter was heard circling the skies in Didcot last night after a dramatic car chase.

Police officers tried to stop a car on Abingdon Road in Oxford at 10pm yesterday night.

But the drivers didn’t stop and instead made an escape through the city to Abbott Road in Didcot.

There they got out of the car and fled the scene, making a getaway on foot.

A Thames Valley Police spokesperson said a 30-year-old man from Northampton and a 43-year-old man from Oxford were arrested in connection with the incident and are still being questioned in police custody.

Hundreds of residents took to social media last night to speculate after hearing 'loud hovering' and seeing flashing blue lights 'everywhere'.

Writing on the Spotted: Didcot page, one person said they had ‘no idea’ what was going on, but added: “It’s drowning out the TV it’s so low and loud.”

Another person said: “They are out by the shops at Abbott Road, I live in one of the flats and loads of police.”

One eye-witness recalled seeing five police cars at the row of shops as well as six officers on foot 'barrelling down an alleyway' and a helicopter in the sky.
