A BAND which has been in existence for more than150 years is on the brink of closure because it cannot perform in lockdown.

Chinnor Silver Band has launched an online crowdfunding page to help prevent the band closing after it has been unable to meet or perform as a group due to the current Covid-19 pandemic.

The band plays at many local events and it also has a training band and Senior band.

In total the band has over 50 members and provides both musical tuition and even an instrument to those members who do not have their own.

Due to lockdown restrictions the band has been left in limbo and has no idea when it will be able to start performing in public again to earn the money it needs to exist.

The silver band needs the funds so it can repair the walls and carpet in its band room ready for when lockdown eases and they can perform again.

Band member Chris Andrews said: “Financially this couldn’t have come at a worse time for the band, but the work could not be delayed any longer.

“However, after this is completed, the hall will need a massive clean-up operation and it will definitely need a redecoration and a new carpet, the current one is about 50-years-old.”

He added: “The band will roll up its sleeves and do this work themselves but I would like to see if we can help to raise the necessary funds to replace the carpet as it would be great to have the band room all ready for when we can start meeting as a group again.”

Chinnor Silver Band is a valued part of the community and now the band members are calling for friends, members, and band supporters to help the band survive financially.

Band member Mr Andrews is asking for £5 donations from the public to fund a carpet tile towards their refurbishment project.

Mr Andrews said: “Any money received will be so very much appreciated and will ensure that the band can continue to get back to what it does best, performing for its local community and providing tuition in a secure and pleasant environment for its members.”
