OXFORD University has said it supports the city’s proposals to install two temporary bus gates, but would like to see other measures alongside them to tackle congestion.
David Prout, pro-vice-chancellor for planning and resources at the university, wrote a letter to Oxford City Council in response to a consultation.
It says: “We believe it could make walking, cycling and public transport safer and more efficient, but we also believe it should be kept under review – in other words we believe the bus gates will need to be accompanied by other measures”.

The university also warned that bus gates would make staff journeys into the city more difficult.
The council wants to install two temporary bus gates for the city centre on Hythe Bridge Street or Worcester Street, between Frideswide Square and Beaumont Street and on St Cross Road or South Parks Road, between Parks Road and Manor Road.
