Bunkfest, the popular annual festival on the Kinecroft in Wallingford, was due to take place next month but has been cancelled because of the coronavirus crisis.

The festival was due to run from Friday, September 4 to Sunday, September 6 and each year provides a welcome financial boost to the town and traders.

The event’s website said with social distancing measures in place it would be impossible to stage the festival in its usual form.

A spokesman said: “We appreciate that this will be a great disappointment to many people, but we hope that you will all understand that it is our responsibility and duty to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all those who attend the festival, which at the current stage and in all probability in the foreseeable future of this crisis cannot be guaranteed with any certainty."

He added: "Rest assured that BunkFest is in rude health, and will return in 2021 bigger and stronger, with planning already under way to make this happen. Until then, keep safe and we look forward to seeing you all again in 2021.”
