A MAN accused of murder after a man died at an Oxford travellers site has been given a date for his trial.

Thames Valley Police launched a murder investigation last month after a post-mortem examination concluded that a man - Anthony Joyce - had died as a result of a head injury.

Officers were called to Redbridge Hollow traveller site off Abingdon Road to reports of a man being found unresponsive at his home.

John Joyce, 30, of Redbridge Hollow, was arrested on suspicion of murder and taken into police custody.

He spoke only to confirm his name at a brief hearing held at Oxford Crown Court today.

At that hearing a trial date was set for the case.

That trial will be held at the same court on November 11 and is expected to last between one and two weeks.

Joyce has not yet entered a formal plea and a further hearing was pencilled in where he is expected to either deny or accept his guilt.

That hearing will be held on September 17. Joyce was remanded in custody in the meantime.

Following the death of Anthony Joyce his wife paid tribute to him and said: "I do not have words to express the pain I have in my heart, I will never forget you.

"He had a good heart and is going to be missed by family and friends in England and Ireland."
