VOTING has now opened in the Lib Dem leadership contest, with Layla Moran battling it out for the top job.

The MP for Oxford West and Abingdon is going up against former minister Sir Ed Davey for the position.

Party members started receiving their ballots today, with almost a month of hustings before voting ends on August 26.

A winner is expected to be declared the following day.

Ahead of the ballot opening, Ms Moran said the party would be 'renewed and revived' under her leadership and it was a chance for the Lib Dems to put coalition and subsequent poor election performances behind them.
