AN HMP Bullingdon prisoner caught with a mobile phone has been handed more time behind bars.

Amir Mostofi was a serving prisoner at the facility near Bicester when officers discovered the device.

The 29-year-old was found by an investigator to have been texting his then-girlfriend from the prison.

Mostofi had already admitted one count of having a mobile phone while in prison without lawful authority.

Oxford Crown Court heard at his sentencing yesterday how he was already serving a jail term for drugs offences.

He is not due to be released from prison for those offences until May 19 next year.

Outlining the incident, prosecutor Cathy Olliver said that on February 28 this year Mostofi was being escorted by a prison officer to the 'segregation unit' at HMP Bullingdon.

While he was being moved a mobile phone was spotted dropping out of his clothing.

That device was analysed and investigations revealed 14 messages had been received and six sent from the phone.

Those messages were to and from Mostofi's then-girlfriend.

Prosecutors said that the content of the messages was 'domestic' in nature.

In mitigation Kellie Enever, defending, said the messages related to 'someone being unfaithful.'

She added that the device had been given to Mostofi and said there had been a 'degree of pressure.'

Referring to the messages she said: "There does not appear to be anything untoward other than a young man in contact with his girlfriend at the time."

Sentencing, Judge Ian Pringle QC said prisoners caught with mobile phones in prison 'can expect to have their sentences increased.'

Mostofi was jailed for a total of six months, which will run consecutive to his current jail term.

He must also pay a statutory victim surcharge.
