LEARNING disability charity Mencap was determined not to cancel its annual summer camp near Oxford this year.
Instead, it embraced the idea of social distancing, called the event Spaced Out, and it went right ahead.
Mencap Oxford has held a summer camp at Hill End, outdoor education centre near Botley for the past 40 years.
This year the charity turned the centre into a park that held daily activities for three weeks.
Instead of daily trips, volunteers put on activities including bingo, story time, yoga sessions, biscuit making, and live music and circles were drawn on the grass to help social distancing.

Camp organiser Katie Hollier said: “People have been so committed the atmosphere has been electric on camp.
“Every single day people are getting more creative and I think that is really important, not just for us but for us to share that with Mencap and other learning disability organisations across the country.”
