A COUNCIL tax refund scam email that claims to refund more than £300 has been reported.

A scam email sent from, facebook@zwater.jp, claims the addressee can get a refund of £385.50 on their council tax from the past five years transferred directly to their Debit or Credit card.

In the scam email it states: "You are getting a Council Tax Reduction (this used to be called Council Tax Benefit) considering you're on a low income or get benefits."

Police advise to check the sender's email address and to report all suspicious emails to report@phishing.gov.uk and to delete them.
