SHOPPERS could be fined £100 if they are caught without a mask in supermarkets.

From July 24, face masks and coverings will be made mandatory under the government’s new set of rules to control the spread of coronavirus.

Masks were already required on buses, trains and most public transport in England and the government also encouraged covering up in taxis too.

But a lot of people, without the rules, have been choosing to wear a mask around the supermarkets already.

Others have speculated the effectiveness of home-made, non-surgical masks.
