A rogue builder was jailed again on Friday after he admitted failing to comply with a serious crime prevention order when he did botched roof repairs for a woman of 71.

John Davies, 75, of Marl Drive, Llandudno Junction, was sent to prison for ten months. Judge Huw Rees told him at Caernarfon crown court it was the fourth breach of such an order.

He said: "This repeated offending is by an entirely dishonest man.

“You were well enough to work and well enough to take the consequences of what you have done yet again.”

Judge Rees said the order was made to prevent householders falling prey to the “sham builder". His dishonesty began in the 1960s and 102 offences were recorded.

Davies had tried to dupe a Rhyl pensioner.

A further serious crime prevention order was made to protect pensioners for five years.

Prosecutor Richard Edwards said the conman told the woman he was a “seasoned roofer” but she had been unhappy with his roof repairs. Davies left a £280 bill but wasn’t paid.

However, the woman paid £650 for remedial work by someone else.

Simon Killeen, defending, said Davies had a pronounced stoop and he urged the judge to spare him immediate custody.
