A MAN is wanted by police after an officer was assaulted in Oxford.

Andre Berley, 32, is wanted in connection with two incidents of assault, including assault of a police officer, and a drugs offence.

Berley is of slim build, about 5ft 11, and has black hair.

He is wanted in connection with an assault on a police officer and drug offence which happened yesterday, along with an investigation into an incident of grievous bodily harm which happened on June 29.

At around 6.50pm yesterday, police stopped a vehicle in Pegasus Road, Blackbird Leys.

One of the occupants exited the car and punched a police officer in the face, before making off on foot.

The officer sustained bruising and swelling injuries. He received hospital treatment and has since been discharged.

At 5.30pm on June 29, a man in his thirties entered a Best One Shop in Balfour Road in Oxford.

Two people then began shouting at him as he entered the shop. After leaving, the victim was hit over the head with a bottle by one of the offenders, before both then began punching him.

The assault continued into Sawpit Road, when the two offenders picked up metal poles and began hitting the victim with them. The victim sustained several injuries, including a head injury requiring hospital treatment. He has since been discharged.

Berley is from Oxford and is known to frequent the Blackbird Leys area.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable Harriett Scroggs, of Oxford police station, said: “I am appealing for the public’s help in locating Andre Berley, following two incidents of assault, one of which is on a police officer, as well as a drugs offence.

“If you see him, please contact police by calling 999 rather than approach him yourself.

A 36-year-old woman from Oxford has been arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a controlled drug of Class B, in connection with the incident yesterday. She has been released under investigation.
