TRIBUTES have poured on social media after the body of a 33-year-old man was discovered in Oxford.

Thames Valley Police launched a murder investigation on Monday after a post-mortem examination concluded that the man had died as a result of a head injury.

Officers were called to Redbridge Hollow traveller site off Abingdon Road at just after 11.50am on Saturday, to reports of a man being found unresponsive at his home.

A 30-year-old man from Oxford was arrested on suspicion of murder and taken into police custody.

Formal identification of the victim has not yet taken place but friends and family have named him online as Anthony Joyce.

Mr Joyce's wife Margaret took to Facebook to pay a tribute to her partner.

She wrote: "God, my lovely husband Anthony, my old heart is broken.

"I will never forget you I promise you, I have a pain that will never go away but I will get justice for you.

"It is just terrible – Anthony was harmless, he did not deserve that."

Oxfordshire residents rushed to support Ms Joyce in her grief.

One Facebook user Katie Louise commented: "My heart breaks for you darling, I am sending you all the wishes in the world."

Another resident Callum McDonagh said: "I am very sorry to hear that.

"I know Anthony from years ago, really good lad."

Senior investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Bosley said the investigation was in its early stages.

He added: "We are conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances and we are supporting the victim’s family.

"I can assure the community that we will leave no stone unturned to ascertain exactly what has led to the death of the victim."
