OXFORD has been named as the worst place in the UK to rent.

Latest research from estate agents Barrows and Forrester has revealed the most expensive parts of the market when it comes to the cost of renting and the salary available.

When breaking the UK down on a local level London takes a back seat to Oxford.

With a monthly net salary of £1,946 and rental costs coming in at an average of £1,588 per month, tenants in the city are spending the staggering 82 per cent of their income on rent.

There are a further 17 areas in the UK where the average rent accounts for 60 per cent or more of the average monthly income.
