TODAY feels like it really is a day to celebrate.

The sun is shining gloriously, our Prime Minister has started to lift some of the most oppressive lockdown rules, and even Oxford's beloved rainbow crossing has returned.

We went into the city centre yesterday, and it was surreal to see so many people socialising, shopping and going about their daily business.

It's only been a few months, but already these sights feel unfamiliar.

Overall, it's positive – it's nice to see people having fun in the sun and of course fantastic that businesses brought to their knees by this lockdown can now start running again.

However, the whole time we have at the back of our minds that warning from our own Oxfordshire public health director last week – it's not a matter of whether we get a second peak or not, it's just a matter of how we manage it.

That's not to say we shouldn't enjoy our summer, of course – a lot of evidence suggests that the summer is a safer time – but for those who could be hard hit by a second lockdown, we think of that old adage – 'make hay while the sun shines'.
