A DRUG dealing law student caught with a stash of heroin and crack cocaine has been spared jail.

Michael Williams admitted two counts of possession with intent to supply class A drugs.

The 41-year-old of Old Road, Oxford, was sentenced for those crimes at Oxford Crown Court yesterday.

Outlining the case prosecutor Cathy Olliver said Williams was rumbled by police on March 29 2018 in Oxford.

Police first spotted a 'suspicious' vehicle on Wood Farm Road and proceeded to follow it.

Williams was a passenger in that car and he was later taken to a police station where he was searched.

In that search officers discovered dozens of wraps of class A drugs stashed in his underwear.

In all police found 55 wraps of cocaine and 33 wraps of heroin.

Prosecutors said the value of that haul of drugs was approximately £820.

Further investigations of his mobile phone also revealed evidence of drug dealing.

The court heard that Williams has a number of previous crimes in his past - made up of 10 convictions for 23 offences.

In 2018 he was jailed for drug dealing offences and for assaulting a police officer.

He was jailed for those offences for a total of 42 months, made up of 32 months concurrent for each drugs charge as well as 10 months consecutive for the assault.

Yesterday, defence barrister Peter Du Feu said that his client had grown up 'under the influence of gangs.'

He added that Williams had been studying for a law degree and he was due to graduate in the summer.

He said: "He is somebody who in his early 40's just might be turning things around."

Presiding Judge Maria Lamb ordered a 16-month jail term, suspended for two years.

Williams must also complete 120 hours of unpaid work and a 30-day 'Thinking Skills' programme.

He must also pay a statutory victim surcharge.
