THE SHOVE-halfpenny team at the White Horse pub in Broad Street, Oxford, had plenty to brag about in 1959.
They had had a highly successful run and when this picture was taken, they were happy to display the host of awards they had won over the years.
The large trophy was the league championship which they had won recently.
The players are pictured with members of the Oxford Shovehalfpenny Association – back row, left to right, Vic Smy, Bert Pill, Frankie Powell, Charles Wallington, Horace Smith; centre, Charles Dickens, L Surman, L Pill, C Anslow; front, Bill Young and A Lyne.
