GRANTS to help businesses which have previously missed out on coronavirus funding are being opened for applications across Oxfordshire.

Oxford City Council and South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse district councils will open up Discretionary Grant Funding to businesses in their areas.

The funding will allow businesses which have previously missed out on grant funding to receive crucial support during the coronavirus outbreak.

Applications opened in Oxford yesterday, and to Vale and South businesses today.

The city council has been awarded £1.265m to distribute.

Businesses and charities are able to receive up to £10,000 as financial support in this round of funding.

South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse District Councils will accept applications from small businesses for a share of around £1.9 million of government support.

Following the announcement of the coronavirus small business rates relief, there were worries that some firms would miss out because of special circumstances.

This included businesses who hired office space from larger firms, and could not claim the relief because they did not pay business rates, but their landlords did.

In April, the Oxford City Council called on the Government to support businesses that were slipping through the funding gaps.
