Police were called to an Old Town café after reports of people sipping drinks in the sun.

The officer could be seen at Gustoso, Wood Street, on Bank Holiday Monday. It followed reports of people sitting on tables outside the café enjoying the sun.

A Wiltshire Police spokesman said: “We were contacted by a member of the public with concerns regarding the Gustoso restaurant on Wood Street.

“Officers attended the location at 2.30pm and the manager was spoken to and given words of advice regarding the current legislation.”

Under the current rules, cafés and restaurants are allowed to open for takeaway and delivery only.

However, according to reports lockdown rules could be eased sufficiently for beer gardens to be open by early July.

Environment secretary George Eustice said: “We are already working with the hospitality and pub sector to identify what social distancing measures they might be able to put in place to make that work. As the prime minister has outlined, we intend that the hospitality sector, including pubs, would be able to tentatively start gradually opening, hopefully during the month of July.”
