A HOUSING development has launched a series of free virtual seminars designed to help people gain insight into all things self- and custom-build.

Graven Hill in Bicester is hosting free fortnightly meetings led by industry experts, starting today.

It aims to equip people with the tools they need to get a head start on their building their dream homes.

The first session today called The Graven Hill Story, will reveal how the Graven Hill project began and delve into the history of the site, exploring the 10-year vision of accommodating up to 1,900 unique homes.

Karen Curtin, managing director of Graven Hill, said that with people staying home due to the coronavirus pandemic, people are more aware about whether their homes still 'work for them'.

She said: “There is a general feeling across the housebuilding community that the Covid-19 crisis has altered the role of the home. With working from home now becoming ‘the new normal’, a house is far more than bricks and mortar; it is a central part of people’s lives.

“The recent change of pace has given many homeowners the time to consider whether their space still works for them; after all, our homes now have to play multiple roles as an office, a school and hopefully a place to relax at the end of the day.

“While people can’t come to visit us, we want to bring Graven Hill to them. Our priority is helping people to realise that their dream home and lifestyle is more achievable than they may think, and we hope our special series of events will support house-hunters in their search for their grand design.”

Throughout the webinar series, viewers will gain access to the full 'Graven Hill experience', from the different build options available and advice on how to finance a dream home to the plans for Phase Two of the development.

All sessions will also include allocated time for a Q&A with the experts.

Graven Hill is said to be the UK’s largest self-build and custom build community.

The plots will be surrounded by open, green spaces including woodland, allotments and a network of cycle and footpaths connecting to Bicester town centre and local transport links.

The site last year featured on Channel 4 documentary Grand Designs: The Street.

Six episodes followed the first 10 families to take on the task of building their dream home.

The pioneering project which spans 188 hectares of former Ministry of Defence land will also include a primary school and retail space.
