A CHIRK hotel will be accommodating NHS staff for another month during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Hand Hotel, in Church Street, has been home to NHS staff since March, and will continue to be so for another month after confirmation from local hospitals.

Manager Paul Rogers is delighted to continue supporting health workers during the fight against the virus.

"They're extending their stay with us for another month," he said.

"There are people at the hospitals we liaise with to make this happen – we have some from the Gobowen Orthopaedic Hospital and some from the Wrexham Maelor Hospital staying with us.

"It's no different to what I've said before – in my opinion this is the most important thing we can do here to help these people on the front line.

"The work they do puts them at risk day in, day out to help everyone else.

"I think we've all got a massive thanks to give to them all."

Paul has been touched by the attitude of the staff staying in the hotel.

He added: "They work so hard, but no matter what they've done, one thing that strikes me is that they're always so cheerful.

"They're always smiling, they never come across as being down and there is never any doom and gloom about them.

"They seem to be getting on with the task in hand and that's really inspirational.

"I take my hat off to them."
