EIGHT new sets of bike racks are set to be installed on streets around Oxford city centre.

The first set will be on at the bottom of New Road, opposite the castle mound in front of Nuffield College.

On Queen Street there are to be two new sets – one in front of Marks & Spencer and another next to Costa Coffee.

More bike racks are also planned in Ship Street, on Speedwell Street at the junction with St Aldates, on Turl Street and on the east side of Wellington Square behind Little Clarendon Street.

Oxfordshire County Council is now asking people if they have any objections to the plans, and if so to contact the council in writing.

Announcing the proposed locations, it said: "Oxfordshire County Council proposes to provide additional, convenient and secure cycle parking facilities at various locations within the city centre.
