Tahid Abdul went on to deny two counts of causing death by dangerous driving in relation to both of his alleged victims.

A pre-trial hearing was held at Oxford Crown Court today in which a trial date for the 42-year-old of Wingate Close, Oxford, was confirmed.

Presiding Judge Ian Pringle QC agreed the trial date of October 12 at the the brief hearing.

Abdul's defence barrister Peter Du Feu said that his client asserted that his driving 'didn't even fall below that of a competent driver, let alone far below it.'

After the collision last year the family of the couple who died paid their own tributes and said they were 'absolutely devastated' by the sudden and tragic loss.

In a statement released through Thames Valley Police, the family said: "We are absolutely devastated by the sudden and tragic loss of mum and dad, granny and grampy.

“They were both loving parents, grandparents and great grandparents and they will both be greatly missed by us all.

“They have left a massive hole in our lives.

“We will treasure all the memories we shared together."
