A NUCLEAR weapon was transported through Oxfordshire on Wednesday for an 'essential military operation', the Ministry of Defence revealed.

This is the first warhead convoy to have passed through the county since the government eased lockdown restrictions.

Oxford CND nukewatchers – a group that monitors weapons – said the trip was 'defying' restrictions, however, an MoD spokesperson said the move was 'carefully planned'.

They added: "Government health advice is being followed and the movement of staff in public areas will be kept to a minimum.”
