A FARM shop run by a butcher who served customers in Botley for more than two decades has received a top hygiene rating.

Field View Farm Shop, in Horton-cum-Studley, just outside Oxford, was inspected by Cherwell District Council’s health team on March 19.

It was awarded a full five stars, with food hygiene and safety judged to be ‘very good’, structural compliance, meaning the condition and cleanliness of the building, and confidence in management also both found to be ‘good’.

Behind the counter of the business, which opened last year, is Andy Brock, who closed his previous shop AJ Brock Butchers in August, 2018.

At the time he remained tight-lipped on his future plans but when asked if he intended to remain a butcher told The Oxford Mail: “It’s all I know.”

The shop’s website, from Andy and Sue Brock, says: “Having successfully run the award winning AJ Brock Butchers in Botley, Oxford for over 20 years it has always been our dream to set up a farm shop in the Oxfordshire countryside.

“Field View Farm Shop is that opportunity.

“An old school butcher with traditional values, all of our produce is local, free range and ethically sourced and produced.”

It added: “We offer quality local produce at a fair price: meat, homemade pies, sausages and bacon, free range eggs, seasonal fruit and vegetables and much more besides. If we don’t stock what you require, just ask and we will do our best to source it.”

Talking more about the produce, it stated: “Our meat is hung, butchered and presented to perfection. On or off the bone, the choice is yours. The cooking is left to you.”

The farm shop website particularly highlights what it has to offer at Christmas, from locally sourced turkeys to show-winning beef, describing it as a 'truly special time for us', adding: "We go all out and we want to make your Christmas as special too."

Devotees of Mr Brock’s previous Elms Parade butchers shop have been pleased to discover he is still offering the same service in a more rural setting.

One recent online reviewer wrote: “Popped in early one Sunday afternoon and left with some lovely beef for tea and also some cracking sausages, plus eggs, veg and more.

“Even better was to find Andy behind the counter, who used to run the butchers in Botley where I was a very happy customer for many years! All the best Andy.”

The business is based at Corner Farm on Oakley Road.
