A MAN who tried to flush class A drugs down the toilet when police arrived before raiding a nightclub for alcohol has been jailed.

Tony Preston had already admitted counts of possession of class A drugs, burglary, a notification failure as a sex offender, and failing to surrender to court.

The 41-year-old of Priory Road, Oxford was sentenced for those offences at Oxford Crown Court yesterday.

Outlining the multiple incidents prosecutor Michael Mason said the first - having the drugs - took place on May 2 2017.

When police went to an address on Priory Road in the city they heard a flushing toilet, and on further investigations they found 11 wraps of drugs floating in the toilet bowl.

The drugs haul was made up of 3.2g of crack cocaine and 1.164g of heroin.

The next offence, a burglary, took place on November 27 2018 at Reading's Revolution bar.

In that break-in three bottles of vodka, one of Bacardi and one of Courvoisier were all taken, which the court heard was valued at £600.

Preston went on to commit further offences by breaching notification requirements as a registered sex offender, and one of failing to surrender to court.

In mitigation his defence barrister said Preston had a long-standing drugs habit and had experienced a period of homelessness.

Sentencing, Judge Ian Pringle QC imposed a jail term of 10 months, suspended for 18 months, and he ordered that Preston pay a statutory victim surcharge.
