Motorists travelling on the M40 near Bicester this morning experienced severe delays after a car collided with the central reservation.

The fast lane of the northbound motorway between junction nine at Bicester and junction 10 at Ardley was closed for an hour until shortly before 8am while the scene was cleared.

A police spokesman said major tailbacks had been caused by the lane closure, but the route had returned to normal.

The driver of the vehicle, a grey Fiat, was unhurt in the collision.
