OXFORD United in the Community is engaging with hundreds of youngsters during lockdown – with unique homework packs.
United’s charity has created a special timetable of homework to support parents who are home schooling their children and to inspire youngsters. So far more than 500 children have been taking part, with many them sharing their work via Oxford United in the Community’s Twitter feed to further enhance wider engagement.
The packs have been shared with children on the charity’s community programmes and have now been made available to everyone via Oxford United’s website and social media.
Oxford United in the Community have created enough content to provide youngsters with a terms’ worth of homework.

The work is designed to encourage youngsters to think, remain healthy and active. Some of the tasks also use the power of football combined with numeracy and literacy to promote continued learning.
In addition to creating a bespoke Oxford United in the Community homework pack, the charity has also joined forces with Premier League Primary Stars to deliver additional weekly more academic focused tasks. They will be released each Thursday via Twitter.
Chris Lowes, Head of Oxford United in the Community, said: “This is the next stage in our continued engagement with our community during the lockdown.
"Like many charities we have had to adapt and find new ways to continue to engage with those we’ve here to support.

"We have created a home-schooling programme, designed to complement the traditional curriculum, to engage with youngsters and deliver positive impact using the power of football. It’s great to see so many youngsters taking part and flourishing and the feedback we have received from parents has been fantastic.”
One parent said: “A big thank you to Oxford United in the Community, the homework really helps break up the kids’ week and the challenges get them outside.”
The home-based activities include:
Week 1 – Match analysis of Oxford United vs Manchester City and Oxford OUWFC v Watford FC Ladies, using video content.

Week 2 – Select three players from either OUFC or OUWFC and explain why, based on what characteristics they might have in terms of physical, social, technical, and psychological.
Week 3 – Analysis of international teams at EURO 2016 and then pick current England team to play against them.
Week 4 – You are the manager of a football club. You have a budget of £400m.
Week 5 – Your football journey.
