Online marketplace eBay has ‘wiped the slate clean’ for a seller based in Bicester after he approached the Bicester Advertiser to report his story.

Robert Peckham, from Langford, Bicester, sells photographic equipment at his shop, Imagex, in Pioneer Square, as well as online through eBay.

Following a dispute with the company after Royal Mail took more than two months to deliver a package, the marketplace limited Mr Peckham’s listing to 140 items per month and downgraded his seller status on the site to ‘Below Standard’.

But now, after looking back at his case and previous 10-year selling history on the site, eBay has changed its mind.

Employees from the company contacted him on two occasions after this paper printed Mr Peckham's story.

Mr Peckham said: “On Friday afternoon I had a phone call from a lovely Irish lady named Katie who introduced herself as one of the Customer Service Team at eBay in Ireland.

“She explained she had seen the article, looked at the communications about this case and the previous ones, had gone back over our 10-year selling history, and decided to ‘wipe the slate clean’ for us.

“Over the weekend, our account has been cleared of all the transactions that were sub-standard, and we have today been returned to ‘Top-Rated Seller’ status.”

He had also received an email from another eBay employee earlier that day saying they had increased his selling limit to 300 items per month along with an increased total maximum value for sales.

Oxford Mail:

He was told that they may consider removing the case in question after Mr Peckham sent some additional evidence - and they did.

Mr Peckham added: “So there we are - it’s a result.

"I never thought I’d be using words like ‘impressed’ to describe eBay, but she had obviously spotted this case and gone to some lengths to sort it out, overriding what eBay UK had already put in place.”

Before eBay rectified the problem, Mr Peckham said he was losing out on a 'significant' amount of business online because he could not list all items on offer and said he would usually make at least £1,000 a week online.

With his retail shop in Bicester town centre closed due to the coronavirus, online sales were vital in keeping his business afloat.

eBay was contacted for comment but failed to respond before this paper went to print.
