A driver has now been released on bail in connection with the death of a woman pedestrian who was hit by a car near Witney.

He was arrested yesterday on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and police have bailed him without charge until January 8.

The incident happened at about 3.55pm on the westbound slip road of the A40 towards High Cogges.

The pedestrian, who has not yet been identified, was involved in a collision with a black Honda CRV travelling in the direction of Witney from Oxford.

The woman, thought to be in her late fifties or early sixties, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The slip road was closed at both ends for several hours while an accident investigation was carried out.
