RUMOURS that a popular farmers' market in Oxfordshire will go ahead this week despite the worsening coronavirus outbreak were confirmed by organisers.

The Abingdon-based event that is normally visited by hundreds of residents will host a reduced list of traders that will only sell essential food and drinks.

There are, however, strict rules for this week's market that will take place on Friday from 8.30am.

Organisers requested potential customers to abide by their strict rules put in place to ensure everybody's safety.

All customers are asked to observe social distancing to ensure that they stay at least two metres away from others; to touch only what they are buying; to buy only what they need and to use contactless payment.

If groupings do form they will be dispersed immediately and if the situation becomes uncontrollable the event will close.

People considered vulnerable are urged to stay at home and those with a cough or a temperature are asked not to attend the farmers' market.
