The streets of Oxford are deserted as residents stay at home amid the coronavirus pandemic.

George Street once full of tourists and rammed with traffic, is now completely empty with only a few key workers keeping the city ticking over.

This is a view many cities across the world are currently familiar with since the outbreak of Covid-19.

Hundreds of businesses, restaurants, theatres, gyms, libraries and pubs have been forced to close after the government introduced strict guidelines to help slow down the spread of coronavirus. This meant public spaces had to shut.

Only businesses offering essential items have remained open and many restaurants in the city are open but only offering customers take-away food and delivery.

Now, while the county stays in contact with family and friends over Facetime and video chat from the comfort of their own homes, NHS staff work around the clock to save people’s lives.
