OXFORD school pupils reached for the sky during a two-day dance workshop for an oriental inspired dance show on February 18, 1986.

Helen Sykes, pictured, a member of the London Contemporary Dance Group, led youngsters who joined 200 Oxfordshire pupils taking part in the art project.

The project was based on a book 'Woman Warrior', which tells the story of a woman born in America of Chinese parents.

The dance group began practising ahead of a series of performances at the Pegasus youth centre.

They were joined by local dance groups and professional Chinese performers for dance, music, mime and martial arts.

Youngsters from Milham Ford, Bishop Kirk, Cheney, Icknield and Watlington schools all took part.
